Trees

Simple and Compound Outside

Get ready to head outside.

You will need some materials.

a piece of paper

a clipboard or something like that to lean on

a pencil

Like last time …

Start by folding the piece of paper just like in the video.

Next, get ready to write these two words a whole bunch of times:

simple

compound

Now… off you go!

Look at the trees all along your block – or nearby in your neighborhood. If you can – find 16 different trees. For each tree, look at the leaves and decide if they are simple orĀ compound. Some trees will be very tricky and some trees might have leaves that are not simple nor compound.

Write the words in the boxes on your paper – one box for each tree.

Remember….

Simple leaves come off of the twig one at a time, in one whole leaf. Compound leaves come off of the twig and then separate into multipleĀ leaflets. It is a bit like the way you have one hand with multiple fingers.

compound
