Colored Pencils
Charles White also worked in color. He did not use colored pencil very much that we know of. He used a kind of crayon and he used paint. But we can learn a lot from the way that Charles White used color, and we can use our new colored pencils in the same way!
First check out these pictures by Charles White. What do you notice in them??
And now…
Get out your colored pencils. Just like when we used ordinary (but not ordinary) pencil.
Choose two different colors. Then…
- Use one color to make a free line.
- Use one color to make a straight line.
- Use one color to make grassy lines that go from dark to light.
- Use one color to make shading that goes from dark to light.
- Use your colors to make two shapes. Color one shape completely going back and forth. Color one shape completely with tiny swirls.
Give it a try!
Do your drawing in your field journal or on another piece of paper. Then send us a picture of your work!
