Art

Vincent

This week, let’s start learning about a new artist. We have met him before, actually, here and there. His name is

Vincent

Vincent Van Gogh

He is going to really help us to see trees. (And a lot more!)

AS USUAL…

We are going to start just by looking. Then we will see what we notice. And then we will try copying. And then we will use Van Gogh’s style to do our own drawings. But… one step at a time 🙂

So here we go. First – just look. Take your time with these two pictures by Van Gogh.

Do you notice anything about Van Gogh‘s style already?

VINCENT VAN GOGH

Lots of people just call him Van Gogh. Sometimes, we like to call him Vincent. You can use the name that feels right to you.

And lots of people (us included) would say that he was one of the greatest artists who ever lived. He taught so many people how to draw and paint and see. Van Gogh was not a teacher, but people look at his art all over the world. Through his art, Van Gogh teaches us how to see the world. Especially nature.

NOTICE!

We will study Van Gogh  for a little while. We will look at lots of his art. We will learn a lot from him. For today, take a very close look at this drawing that he made. You can even zoom in. When you are ready make a list below of at least ten things that you notice. You might notice objects. You might notice colors. You might notice shapes. List anything and everything that you notice.

AND NOW

Let’s see what you can do! Look at these four details from the drawing. One of them is sky. One of them is water. One of them is hay. One of them is wood. Van Gogh wants you to know that all of these parts of the world FEEL different.

First, see if you can find each detail in the drawing up above.

Then, get a sketchbook or a piece of paper. Get a pencil or a pen. Can you carefully copy all four textures?
