The Shapes of Our Face

First, think about what you already know about Frida Kahlo and her art. Then, look at this painting and just notice. The longer you look, the more you will notice. And the deeper and more interesting your noticings will become. Start right with the most obvious things. And then go deeper and deeper and deeper. You will really get inside the painting!

Face shapes

Frida Kahlo was a master painter in lots of ways, but one way that she was a master is that she really understood the shapes of her face. Let’s see if we can understand the shapes of our shapes better, too!

We look at ourselves and each other all of the time! We think we know the shapes of our face. But do we really???

Zoom in!

Just like with the scales on a tree. It can be helpful to zoom in and see shapes super close up. Give it a try. Find your face and zoom in!

In school, we will print the pictures out and use a piece of tracing paper to really explore those shapes. You can do that at home too, if you want to!
